| Marco Pieri //15th april - 29th may 2010// "MAW" MenAtWindows revives and dwells in a forgotten, lifeless urban space through a collective performance that turns not only by a photographic-click but in a truly lived artistic experience. The abandoned buildings temporally fill up with significance by means of addition and subtraction. It is an instant work of art: the protagonists of the performance are the men in red; they repopulate the building for a moment, occupying empty and colourless spaces like a vital lymph that restarts to circulate inside the buildings. The purpose of the artist is to take possession once again of deserted places, metropolitan reality left without purpose where art’s goal is to fill and revitalize the emptiness. The building’s identity never changes it just transforms itself when a hundred people flow into the empty space that becomes art for a brief moment of the click. Everything inevitably is destined to return like before, motionless and deserted. The click is the only evidence of this artwork, like a sudden passage of life and meaning. The figures covered in red are a precise decision of the author to create a contrast with the grey of the scene. The red element does not have any political value or membership. On the contrary it has lived creating total uniformity among its participants to be notice in the blank spaces of the facade. With MAW, the artist decides to give a new look at shape and architecture lasting a long time with no meaning in the city where he lives. Before the performance starts, each building has been studied and observed for a long period.To be understood in every aspect of its uniqueness and complexity: All the spaces are reinterpreted through the artist’s sensibility to exploit their personality studying the volumes composing the structure.The choice of the shot, the position of the figures along the building lines, the setting of empty and full spaces, the choice of hour to stop the moment, all these elements come from the precise decisions of the artist before the performance. There are other unforeseeable and casual factors defining the performance (the light of the selected day the quantity of participants, the weather etc. etc. This is what makes the fixed instant of the click unique. // see more // |

| Carla Della Beffa //26th january - 06th february 2010// "PETIT CHAPERON ROUGE " “Kisses, words and food: The mouth is the place where most of my work begins.” With these words Carla Della Beffa introduces herself and her work, Petit Chaperon Rouge (Wolf-Dating), which we are happy to present in our space. Inspired by Charles Perrault's original version of Little Red Riding Hood, which remains the cruelest and most brutally moralizing version of the seminal fairy tale, the artist takes us throug the story, culminating in Chaperon Rouge being eaten by the wolf. Della Beffa overturns the moralistic-educational message of the tale, claiming it to be the right of every woman, of any age, to let the wolf eat her up, if that is her wish. In our contemporary world, where sexuality is an unabashed commodity propelling a largely male-controlled market for objectifying representations of particularly young women and female sexuality more generally, this video treats us as autonomous human beings, and not just as one product or commodity. // see more // |

| Brandon Ballengée //18th september - 14th november 2009// "MONSTRE SACRE'" STARTmilano 2009 presents the first Italian solo show of Brandon Ballangée.Curacy by Francesco Monico. Exploring the boundaries between art, science and technology, Brandon Ballengée creates multidisciplinary works out of information generated from ecological field trips and laboratory research. Since 1996, Ballengée has collaborated with numerous scientists to conduct primary biological research and Ecological Artworks. A particular area of study is the occurrence of malformation and global declines of amphibians. These activities were outlined in “Ecoventions”, a book published in 2002 by the Contemporary Arts Center of Cincinnati. | Simon Lewandowski //29th may - 31st july 2008// "INVESTIGATIONS OF MARGINAL PHENOMENA (FROM THE BRITISH SCHOOL OF TELEPATHY ARCHIVE)" London-based artist Simon Lewandowski shows a selection of work exploring phenomena often considered marginal to the main discourses of Modern Art, but increasingly prevalent in current practice – randomness, automatism, hypnosis and simultaneity. The show includes drawings, photographs, kinetic multiples and MILLIONS NOW LIVING WILL NEVER DIE, which is described as “a short film that goes on as long as you want and never looks the same...” There will also be an opportunity to see the “Machine For Capturing The Fleeting Instant...” which explores the nature of Time and Movement with a combination of 19th and 21st Century mechanics, and to try out the “Portable Flicker”, a device for stimulating visual effects directly to the viewer’s cerebral cortex.
